HOW TO MICRO-NEEDLE SAFELY AT HOME
It’s the trending treatment that boosts skin health and helps achieve a more youthful complexion, but is microneedling safe to do at home? Sarah Chapman, Facialist & Founder of Skinesis skincare and the Skinesis Clinic, is here to tell us all about this transformative treatment.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is the process of creating tiny pinpricks in the skin using a specialised device. This has been proven to deliver a wide range of reparative and rejuvenating benefits.
What are the benefits of microneedling for the skin?
Microneedling stimulates the skin’s healing mechanisms and boosts collagen production, revealing a firmer, smoother, younger-looking appearance.
My Meso Melt Infusion System offers even greater benefits: its needling tips are made from firming peptides and hyaluronic acid; these dissolve, releasing their actives within the skin for a powerful, bi-phase treatment.
What are the potential risks with microneedling at home?
With stainless-steel needles, there is a risk that you might use the device for too long and overstimulate the skin, or introduce bacteria by not cleansing the device thoroughly.
To avoid this, it is better to use a roller like ours with single-use needling tips that dissolve after the perfect amount of time, minimising the risk of sensitivity or infection.
What are some common mistakes people make when performing this treatment at home?
Many people don’t realise that you can use microneedling devices around the orbital area and the lip-line to firm and re-densify the thin, delicate skin in these areas.
I also remind clients to avoid microneedling over inflamed or fluid-filled blemishes, as the process creates heat that can aggravate these.
How do you perform microneedling at home?
Step One: Cleanse the skin, then make sure it is completely dry before continuing. This is vital with my Platinum Meso-Melt Infusion System, as you don’t want the microneedles to dissolve too soon.
Step Two: Using firm but not intense pressure, move the roller across the face, neck and decolletage for 10 minutes, moving vertically, horizontally and diagonally.
Step Three: Cover the top of the glass ampoule with a tissue and carefully snap to open at the point indicated by the ring on the neck.
Step Four: Wait 10 minutes, then apply the contents of the ampoule to the skin. Wait 10 seconds, then continue rolling to activate the microneedles.
Step Five: Your treatment is complete when all needles on the roller have fully dissolved. To continue experiencing the benefits, you can purchase our Platinum Meso-Melt Infusion System Refill.

What aftercare do you need following microneedling?
A soothing, hydrating mask like my3D Moisture Infusion will reduce any redness – keep one in the fridge for a cooling cryotherapy effect. After that, high-potency rejuvenating formulas like my Icon Night or Platinum Stem Cell Elixir will be able to penetrate through the micro-channels, for even greater results.
How do you properly clean your microneedling device?
There is no need to cleanse our needling tips as they are single-use and disposable, keeping the treatment ultra-safe and hygienic.
