How To Create The DNA Wave Effect
You’ve heard of pin curls, beachy waves and ringlets, but have you heard of the DNA wave? Although it sounds scientific, this trend is actually one of the hottest new styles for curling your hair.Inspired by the shape of a DNA molecule (hence the name), this alternative style of curl creates a gorgeously loose, flowy wave for that fresh-out-the-salon look.
STEP ONE
Start off by choosing a good quality pair of straighteners – ones with varying heat settings are best to minimise damage to your locks – especially for those with coloured hair. To further shield your hair, spritz over it thoroughly in sections with a good quality heat protectant spray.
STEP TWO
Section your hair so that it is easier to style. Start off by using a sectioning comb to take a large portion of hair from the top. Clip it out of the way, leaving a thinner, more manageable section underneath to begin styling with. Release small sections as you go along until all the hair is styled.
STEP THREE
Keeping your straighteners at a 90 degree angle, twist them once away from you as you slide down the first two inches of your hair.
STEP FOUR
Now it’s time to create that beautiful shape. Twist the straighteners back the other way, looping in the hair and gliding down another inch or so.
STEP FIVE
Slowly repeat this process two to three times (depending on hair length) until you reach the bottom of the strand and gently release the hair to reveal your beautifully bouncy wave!
STEP SIX
Finish off with some hairspray to lock in your style for longer and keep your waves looking fresh!
